You can try to move the ".xml" extension from the field "as Imternet/Office" into "as Windows preview" in the viewer settings.PS The windows explorer was able to preview this file.

You wrote about viewer/quick viewer.thanks for incorporating exiftool into Quick View/ Viewer.
In Viewer (F3) you can find in main menu View->Show Exif/Metadata.
In QuickViewer the View popup menu you can open with right click on the title bar of the QuickView.

Workaround 1:
- Shift+F4 (open editor with new file)
- type file name
- Alt+F4 (close editor)

I have been searching for documentation of this bug, but I don't see anyone mention it. Maybe it is not a bug. As the name say it is "history" - so when you use the back button, you open all visited folders in reverse order. You can click on history button (or use Alt+Down) in address bar...
