How do you specify the PDF Viewer to be used for the internal viewer and quick viewer? I first removed .pdf as Windows Preview extension in Tools → Settings → Programs → View → Viewers. I then tried specifying the executable for PDF-XChange portable in Tools → Settings → Programs → (Internal) Viewer...

As an additional note, it is important to stress that the safety of many of these viewers needs to be verified. The source code is not available for most of them, and many are hosted on random sites.

Some of the viewers have not been updated in 5-10 years.

I also find Freecommander very slow working with mapped network drives (especially copy/move operations) compared to Windows Explorer. Yes, it's the only time I need to open Windows Explorer. Try to backup actual settings and then use one of the settings from backup. The path to FC, settings folder are in main menu > Help > About. ... You can definitely make a shortcut to FreeCommander, and then assign any icon you would like. This is what I do.
