There should be no problems (I've updated from another older version to 405 and had no problems).

Backup your ini file first.

The version number is 2009.02 and the build number is 405.

FC doesn't officially support 64 bit Windows so this might be your problem.

Not sure I understand you correctly; FC doesn't support files associations yet (launch specific extensions-programs only while it is running).

For portable files associations use Coffe.
For permanent files associations use RegEdit or FileTypesMan.
