I keep, for occasional use, a couple of other file managers that can have from for to six panels. They haven't got one tenth of the good features of Free Commander, but sometimes I need to sort files from one folder into several other places all at once, and that seems to be the easiest way.

I have problems with the focus being where I don't expect it too, depending on how I go back or up. Once there was a very amusing case of mass deletion because I didn't look closely enough before hitting Shift+Delete while doing some housecleaning. My face looked funny then...

I have been playing with the flat view in carefully chosen directories, and I think I will find it very useful. For now, I may have to rearrange a few things, but I need to do that anyway. I used it to locate all of the different archived versions of one chapter of a novel I am working on, so I coul...

I thought that the one I tried it on was fairly moderate (I know better than to try any cute new tricks with C:\ LOL).

I may experiment further and see what happens. I don't think I need it much. Maybe some day when I have a really fast computer... :D

I am going to be VERY careful not to do that again! I tried it once and for a long time I saw my "busy" cursor -- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/matera/taptap.gif It had started to show some strange things before I gave up and ended its suffering. Very odd filenames, or something. :(

"My Computer" will never behave like any normal drive or folder, it is a Windows Desktop Namespace. You can make Free Commander your default file manager instead of the Windows clunker. I did that once. Unfortunately, it resulted in FC opening from the file browse panel of other programs w...

I have poor eyesight, and am thankful that I can use a large enough font to read file names in FC at a 1024x768 screen resolution. I use the tree view most of the time. For me it is more convenient to switch folders quickly within the same panel, even if I have to sacrifice some space. Being able to...

Have you tried changing some of the extra settings? Passive mode, other details? Could you have a firewall blocking it?

I don't know why FileZilla stopped working for me any more, only that Free Commander does, and it has not given me any trouble. Yet...

First, have the FTP shown as a drive on the drive bar (or combo box). Double-click the "New FTP connection" icon. Then enter the usual information and click OK. Now you will have a "folder" that represents your FTP site. Double-clicking it will open the FTP connection. To close t...

There is a misunderstanding -- I had thought at first too, that it was a problem with a shortcut -- a .lnk file -- but dr-schwarz wants to move a Free Commander configuration file from his "personal" directory to Free Commander's. In the Settings dialog, you can set where the INI file load...

It is always a good idea to watch any installation process for options. For myself, I prefer to download zip files with no installer whenever possible. You can get Free Commander that way. Of course it means using some other file manager for a minute or two...

FTP settings

I am using ver.2008.06a Shouldn't the file overwrite settings be kept? I have to check everything every time I copy a file or two to my site. I only started using FC for FTP within the past month, because FileZilla suddenly stopped being able to get a directory listing. I have no idea why that happe...

F2 already works for both single and multiple rename, and to copy a filename we have the Alt (+ Shift) + Ins shortcuts. Why clutter the context menu.
