Double-click on cursor to open file/folder

#1 Post by ags1905 » 30.07.2020, 17:17

I am using FreeCommander XE 2020 build 810a 32-bit public, in Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows 10 Pro.
FC is configured to show items as a list.

Problem: in Windows XP, I want to open files and folders with double-click anywhere on the cursor. But FC only opens them if I double-click on icon, name or extension.

Expected action: to open the file/folder if I double-click anywhere in the current cursor, this is a normal behavior to me, like any other file manager.

In Windows 10 everything is ok.

FAQ: https://freecommander.com/en/faq-view/#NoSelectFullRow

I'm not sure if it's what you want, but probably it's the “Full row select” option, it should be enabled by default.

If it's not this option, try to explain your problem, perhaps a screenshot would help.

I'll try to explain on the following picture:

In the image above, folder Languanges is selected. The orange rectangle is the selection cursor. In Windows 10, if I want to open the folder with the mouse, I double-click anywhere in the orange rectangle and the Languages folder opens. This is the normal behavior.
In Windows XP, the folders open only if I double-click on their icon or their name. The folders do not open if I click in the empty part of the cursor. If the column width is much larger than the name of the folder, it would be much more convenient to double-click anywhere in the area occupied by the cursor, to open a folder (or a file).

I tried to experiment with “Full row select”, in Windows XP or 10, but that option seems to do absolutely nothing in List View (Ctrl + F1), or at least nothing noticeable by me.

I am still having this problem. I wonder if anyone can replicate this on Windows XP...

Is "them off" deactivated on the xp machine?
When it is off and the fc is restarted it should work in list view.

Full row only is affecting details view as described here.

FAQ: https://freecommander.com/en/faq-view/#NoSelectFullRow

In the link there is also an example on how them off should behave, which made a difference in list view for me.

What do you mean by "them off"?

Thank you for the answer, Dreamer.
I experimented with "Theme off (need program restart)" option and indeed it is the right option. It does what I need it to do if it is not checked.
My trouble is that it works properly in Windows 10, but it has no effect in Windows XP, where I have the problem.
