FreeCommander shortcut keys same as Windows?

#1 Post by JamesLucas » 09.11.2020, 08:58

Most keyboard shortcuts are not in conflict, so they can be used by default, some of them are already working like this, so perhaps also others will be added, those few shortcuts which are in conflict must be set to file manager or explorer by default, it's not easy to decide, FC has many users which are using the current shortcuts for years, it omegle xender would be a problem if they would be changed now, I think that most important shortcut is the F5 and in file managers it works as copy all the time, also the other F-keys are depending on this key, like F6 to move.

Perhaps the special setup - settings on first FC start could be added - like "Explorer mode" and "File manager mode", and all settings would be configured that way, so if user start FC for the first time, he could choose the language, mode, and in "explorer mode there would be one panel, explorer shortcuts, toolbar buttons like in explorer, in file "manager mode" there would be dual panel, FC shortcuts, NC-mode... Anyway, I'm not sure if it's needed.

I already suggested some changes and second shortcuts, especially for those, which are different in Windows Explorer, that way both shortcuts would be working, e.g. Quick view / preview - Ctrl+Q / Alt+P.

Default first/second keyboard shortcuts suggestions - FreeCommander Forum

Regarding 2 different shortcut modes - the problem is, that lot of standard FC options would not work, alternative shortcuts would be needed for those, like F3-F12. Another problem is online help, information about shortcuts would be incorrect, also the FAQ and posts in this forum, so it could be confusing.

I don't know, how former Explorer users use FC, are they using 1-panel or 2-panel view, are they changing F-key shortcuts, are they using keyboard shortcuts at all, not just mouse?

Which shortcuts are really important for former Explorer users, F5, which others? I think it's not so hard to use Ctrl+R, moreover, auto-refresh is enabled by default.
