Column Profile per Panel

I have a two panel layout with one wider than the other. How can I use one column profile for the left panel and a separate one for the right panel? When I set a column profile for a panel it reverts to the default when I create a new tab or open a subfolder in the panel. There seems to be a way to associate folders with column profiles, but I want to set column profiles by panel.
