Question on viewer zoom feature

I ran version 740 for many months and the viewed image in the right side panel was always sized properly to fit the available area.
Now, I run version 790 and the image in the right panel is often too large are too small when it first displays. I have to use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom to the correct size.
Is there a setting to turn off the scroll-wheel zoom and just have the image automatically sized to fit the area?
