How to set permanent column width in detail mode?

#1 Post by Forez » 13.12.2016, 20:39

Every time I switch to the "Dislpay detail information in columns for all items (CTRL + F2)", the width of column bearing the filename is adjusted to the longest name; which is quite logic. But at the same time, the "Modified" column ends at the hour, conceiving minutes and seconds

How do I tell FreeCommander to treat also "Modifed" column just like the "Name" one? It is just annoying to have to adjust it every time I turn detailed that view on, even if it only requires one double-clik from me

Tools - Settings... - Column Profiles - button Define columns - choose "Modified" column and change Width from 17 to 19.
Works fine in my config. I think Marek can increase default width for that column in future FC XE versions.

Thank you

But how do I make my profile to be default one in all folders? Now, after setting up a new profile to my likening, sometimes when I switch with CTRL + F2 I get the view with it and sometimes not [and so I have to choose it]. I just cannot figure it out

Why you can't use default profile fc_default_view?

So are you telling me, I should not have created a new profile but modify the default one?

What if something messes up and I cannot go to the default settings, because those defaults will be altered by me?

Move profile up to give it priority.

Also
Help file wrote:If no column profile exists (the list of profiles is empty), FreeCommander automatically creates one called "fc_default_view". The settings of this profile can be altered and saved just as any other column profile.

Well, I was wrong

In spite of the fact that I now have only one profile [with my settings] I still have to switch to view with columns and choose my profile; although there is always only one on the list [mine]. If I do not, then I get some other default profile [that does not show up onthe ist of profiles. [This new default one has different settings than previous]

I just cannot force my profile to by a permanent choice every time I switch to view with columns. It only applies itself automatically if my active tab is displayed with my profile- so when I open a new tab then it gets "copied" over from the last one [and so the new active tab is shown with my profile from the get go]

It would be really simply to answer you if you show us your profile definition.

I would rather refrain from posting online my config files, as it may contains personal information

But I have looked into them. And there is this one "FreeCommander.ini" in

Code: Select all

C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Local\FreeCommanderXE\Settings
folder that contains section

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews]
And it listed two configurations

Code: Select all

1=MY-PERSONAL-CONFIG
2=fc_default_view
Yes- that "fc_default_view " which I deleted from in "Column Profiles". So I deleted it once again, manually from the config file

So now below that section

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews]
there is now only a section for

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews_MY-PERSONAL-CONFIG]
with a parameter

Code: Select all

Condition=<fixed>
But above that

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews]
there were also those

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews_{E8332541-247E-4B9E-8FAA-F831106A2EC8}]
Condition=CSIDL5
[FcDetailedViews_{7A95180E-1156-4E30-9253-6C5DD433F989}]
Condition=CSIDL17
[FcDetailedViews_{7A95180E-1156-4E30-9253-6C5DD433F989}]
Condition=CSIDL17
[FcDetailedViews_{8E3AC374-EEDA-4110-BCDA-F3227E7DA806}]
Condition=CSIDL10
[FcDetailedViews_{9DD16F9A-0F66-49E4-8BB7-FEEED5DB802A}]
Condition=CSIDL10
And I do not know what they were for, because they resided there even if I turned of every single detailed view in FC, closed it and / or reseted the system. What for they are were if they were not used?

So I deleted them from the config, but after closing and opening of FC one old has reappeared

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews_{E8332541-247E-4B9E-8FAA-F831106A2EC8}]
Condition=CSIDL5
and a one new was created

Code: Select all

[FcDetailedViews_{61EBB13C-6571-424A-BA2C-C0930CB75F1F}]
Condition=CSIDL17
What for- I do not know, because there was no single tab displaying detailed view. And of course changing view to detailed did not use MY-PERSONAL-CONFIG but that second default one
But I've noticed, that this file also have a section for every tab. And and the end of each section there is this

Code: Select all

DetailedView=
line. And what is most interesting they all had it described as

Code: Select all

DetailedView=fc_default_view
Yes- that "fc_default_view" which was listed as second in the section "[FcDetailedViews]" which I deleted; and which has been replaced by some other default view since then

So now it seems clearly that it is a bug. Because I can manually change every

Code: Select all

DetailedView=fc_default_view
into

Code: Select all

DetailedView=MY-PERSONAL-CONFIG
and finally see my configuration if I switch to detailed view- but only until I close FC. Because after reopening that config file reverts every single change from

Code: Select all

DetailedView=MY-PERSONAL-CONFIG
back to

Code: Select all

DetailedView=fc_default_view
with the exception of tabs that had the detailed view turned on them while FC was closing. So in order to have my personal detailed view I would have to have all of the tabs set to detailed view and with that specific configuration of mine and never ever close FC with even one [even not active] tab in a not detailed view
