FC opens folders / shows contents of folders very slow

#1 Post by Donut » 11.02.2017, 12:52

I have folders with e.g. about 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 items (folders or / and files). When I open such folders it lasts about 10, 20 seconds until FC shows its contents. And marking such amounts of folders causes the same behavior

How could I make FC doing it in an acceptable speed / faster?

Using “Compare folders” (STRG+V) does not work with such an amount of items, FC shows “No response”, is not accessible anymore. I have to close it with the Task Manager. How could I make that work?

Tested with 700 files/folders in FC XE 740 32-bit donor. In my config it took 3 seconds to show content. Selecting all files with '*' was almost immediate.
Can you tell us what AV-software do you use? Try to disable antivirus and compare results. Some AV-software checks contents of all files stored in a folder when you open it. This could be the cause of all your problems.

I use Win 10 Defender.

Actually I would not thing it, because all of the other programs / file managers I use / I have tried, does it like usual, without such hesitations. But I just tried anyway, it kept the same when Defender was switched off, it is not getting faster.

Make sure Quick viewer is not active (and minimized) or Calculate the space occupied by folders option enabled.

1. Check the default settings first
- download the portable version http://freecommander.com/downloads/Free ... rtable.zip
- unpack the content in e.g. c:\tools\FreeCommanderXE
- start freecommander.exe
- do not change any settings!!
- test your folders

2. Where are the folders: local drive or network?

3. Your PC, Windows, CPU, RAM?

Make sure Quick viewer is not active (and minimized)
Quick viewer? Opened by pressing STRG+Q? Or where can I find it?
or Calculate the space occupied by folders option enabled.
That is deactivated.

1. Done, they are shown immediately at the moment.
2. Many of them are on an external 3.0 USB 5 TB hard disk and some are on an internal drive: 256 GB SSD - KINGSTON RBU-SC.

Now start to change the settings and check often your folders, so you can find the problem setting.

3. Your PC is not a problem

Well, there are so many settings, above all when FC shows the content of the same folder a second time or more the content is shown immediately.

Alright, many thanks
