"Copy with dialog" to read-only destination results in endless loop of popups

#1 Post by neoteric5 » 21.09.2017, 14:43

Copying a file to a read-only destination directory using “File -> Copy with dialog” results in an endless loop of popups. Logging out or rebooting appears to be the only way to recover.

Platform:
FreeCommander XE 2017 Build 756 64-bit donor
Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit

What method do you use in Tools - Settings - File/folder operations for delete/copy/move:
- Windows
or
-FreeCommander?
If you use FreeCommander, what method for Copy/Move with Vista and higher is set as default?

@Timon - In my Tools - Settings - File/folder operations for delete/copy/move, all three have "FreeCommander" selected and the method for Copy/Move with Vista and higher is also set as FreeCommander. If I change this to Windows, I don't get the endless looping.

Are there pros/cons to each setting? The UI for the FreeCommander option is nicer.

Yes, you are right - The UI for the FreeCommander option is nicer (I like it more too). But FreeCommander mode have some problems with UAC that are not resolved completely. Thats's why under Windows 7+ I have to use 'FreeCommander' with 'Use Windows method for all drives' for 'Copy/Move with Vista and higher' set as default. Relying on personal feelings, speed of copying is higher in that case.

It's also nice to know that there is an easy workaround. Thank you!
