icons blinking

#1 Post by reble » 05.10.2020, 16:08

1st off this is on a Gateway laptop model NV570P-18U, OS Win 10 Pro 64 bit.
I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Free Commander. All of the icons and everything else in the Free Commander window blinks and cycles in the same pattern over and over about a 1 minute interval. I have been using Free Commander for a long time and I never seen this before.

PS: only the Free Commander window blinks, the rest of Windows desktop is fine.

Updated graphic drivers?
Are you maybe experiencing DPC latency issues?
Do you have some slow HDD? Or some network storage connected?

What is the "DPC latency" I think I know what the "latency" part is. If I am right I have to turn on the "latency" in the bios to change the boot order. Like I normally keep the HDD in the #1 boot order line. But if I need to boot off a self booting DVD. Then I move the optical drive to the #1 boot line. And example would be the self booting DVD that I have to over ride the Windows logon password if I forgot the password.

PS: Yes I have a 500gb HDD in an external USB case. It doesn't matter if any USB flash drives or the USB HDD are plugged in or not. The icons still blink.

I think I know why the icons are blinking. In Win 10 Pro I can set the desktop background picture to change pictures at a set interval. The interval that the desktop background picture changes is the same interval that the Free Commander icons blink. The desktop icons don't blink and I don't have a clue as to why the Free Commander icons do.

Is the tree active/visible in your FC layout?
If yes, try without the tree.

Yes the tree is visible in both planes (1 tree for each plane). What do you mean by active? If I understand "the tree active" I can click on things in the tree. I was wrong about the connection to the desktop background pictures change. The Free Cmd icon blink has picked up on the interval. Here is a screen capture.

I have never run across this problem before. I have been using the free version for many years with no problems until now. BTW I am running Win 10 Pro 64 bit. The Free Commander that I have is the 32 bit free version. Does that make any difference?

PS: the D drive is the HDD in an external USB case, the E drive is the internal optical drive in the laptop, the F drive is an external optical drive in a USB case.

Try to disable the tree with Alt+T, for both panels, so that tree for both panels will be deactivated, just temporary, restart the program and test - if the icons are still blinking, it can help to fix it - then you can enable tree again, same way, Alt+T.

I did what you said. I disabled both trees and restarted the program. The icons in both panels and the Free Cmd menu are still blinking

The next step would be to check what happens if the external USB drives are not connected to your PC?

The icons still blink when no USB drives are connected.
