Search files cannot find filename with specific Chinese Character

#1 Post by jack6th » 11.01.2021, 11:21

FreeCommander XE 2020 Build 840 32-bit public
Windows 10

Create an empty file with name 股.txt and XXX股YYY.txt on Desktop.
Open Search files tool and search 股 in the Desktop directory.
Find nothing.

My OS: Windows 10 en-US
My PC settings:
Region: Unite States
Region Format: Recommended [English (United States)]
Language for non-Unicode programs: Chinese (Simplified, China)

File explorer can find them but FreeCommander can't.

Can't confirm.

FC 840 32-bit public, 840 64-bit donor, Windows 10 20H2 64-bit English.

Try to set the PC as below:

Win+q -> Region settings -> Country or region: United States ->
Regional Format: Recommended [English (United States)]

Press Win+r -> control intl.cpl -> Administrative -> Language for non-Unicode programs ->
Change system locale... -> Current system locale: Chinese (Simplified, China) ->
Keep uncheck the line below: Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support ->
Press OK -> restart computer

It should reproduce the problem.

Some Chinese applications need this option unchecked to display Chinese correctly.
With this option unchecked, FreeCommander can display Chinese correctly, but search files cannot find them.

Hey jack6th,

it would be interesting to know if the following makes a difference:
instead of typing the file name into the search field, copy the file name and insert it into the search field and see if the file is found.

Best regards
