No Context Menu for Splitter Bar

#1 Post by Free4all » 30.09.2014, 21:31

It would be great to have a context menu for the Splitter Bar. An obvious menuitem to include would be the Settings page to configure the Splitter Bar.

Thank you for your feedback and the screenshot.

Interestingly, I don't get a context menu for the Splitter Bar on any systems I tested. I tested Windows 7 and XP Professional.

I thought maybe it was a vertical vs. horizontal issue, but I tried both, and still nothing.

What OS did you test? Which version of FreeCommander XE? (I tested using build 665.) If you switch to horizontal, does it still work for you?

I'm using win7x64sp1 and tested the following builds (all portable):
- 650 stable public with default settings
- 665 beta public with default settings
- 672 donor with default settings
- 672 x64 donor with default settings
- 672 x64 donor with my custom settings
- 673 donor with default settings
- 673 x64 donor with default settings
- 673 x64 donor with my custom settings
They all work well (even if Split horizontal setting was used) and they all display a context menu when I right click the splitter bar anywhere, even on the icons (except the Recycle Bin one).

Would like to see a screenshot of your splitter bar, maybe we'll better understand what's going on.

You should try to download and test the portable 665 version with default settings (extracted outside Program Files!).

Do you use any Security Suite that may interfere with such menus?

P.S. @Marek: would it be possible to change the first menu item from "Split horizontal" to "Split vertical" when this setting is changed?

In FC XE 673 donor under Windows XP SP3 context menu for Splitter Bar works fine (with right mouse button click on splitter bar).

Thank you both for all the feedback and testing!

I think I found the issue. When the Status Bar is initially added, and the settings have not been saved, there is no context menu for the Status Bar. Once the settings have been saved and FreeCommander XE is restarted, the context menu works. Tested with 665 public beta. Seems to be a bug.

@joby_toss: BTW, can you elaborate on why not to extract the portable version into the Program Files folder? I thought the correct location is Program Files (x86) for the 32-bit version, which may be what you are alluding to... but I'm interested to hear you thoughts. Feel free to create a new thread if appropriate.

(Splitter bar or Status bar?)

Try right click on this small area until you restart FC:

But you're right, it doesn't work the first time you enable the Splitter bar. However, the default settings include the Splitter bar, so you did disable it at some point.

You can find some reasons here: http://portableapps.com/node/34720

Basically, having a portable app in Program Files or Program Files (x86) system folders needs administrator rights (for writing the settings), having to deal with UAC, can brake the portability (settings saved in AppData instead of app's folder) etc.

It appears that the bug is when the Splitter toolbar is enabled (after being disabled), the context menu does not initially work.
