can't fully open Help files

#1 Post by johanus » 09.02.2016, 20:14

Running build 716 64bit in Win 7 Pro. Downloaded current FreeComander.chm and copied it to the Free Commander folder in Program Files.

When I attempt to access the Help files I see normal looking list of Help topics but cannot open any topic to see actual contents: clicking on a topic yields nothing, no response, no error message (Display buttons are no help).

Google searches yields lots of tips for problems with non-local .chm but this is local. I have registered hhctrl.ocx. I have excluded the file from Microsoft Essentials attention. Brand new user, by the way, so I feel I need the Help files!)

Check the ReadMe_XE.txt in FreeCommander install folder.

Thank you, Karol! I had seen the ReadMe suggestions but they seemed to be for non-local help files. With your encouragement I revisited and tried the HHReg utility. That fixed me up! Thanks again for your help!
