Selecting files with the mouse and dragging

Selecting multiple files by clicking and dragging to form a rectangle is not reliable. Eg when you reduce the size of the rectangle to leave files out they remain selected. In Windows Explorer you can click anywhere in the pane to start forming the box.
Also, following the Explorer convention, left-clicking and dragging a file in the same folder should be ignored. Currently, it generates an error message saying 'the source and destination filenames are the same' adding an unnecessary step.
