FC and Vista Usage

#1 Post by Mr-Fly » 16.03.2008, 15:37

Hi.

I recently changed to vista.
It seems to me, that FC does not support UAC in all areas.
While copying it will allow me to UAC if copied to program files.
But creating directories or even deleting files seems not to work.
FC has to be elevated to make this actions.
Maybe it would be great to have a elevation button somewhere, which will elevate FC to admin status.

Marek: is this doable? Do you have a chance on looking into vista UAC as this will also be the case in Server 2008.

Regards Thorsten

Marek,

This might be a good page for getting informations about vista elevation:

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vista-sec ... vator.aspx

Do you think there could be something like it in one of the next versions ?

It might drive some people to wrong conclusions when they use FC in Vista with UAC turned on (which I do, although I know what it is about :-)

regards
Thorsten

Take it really slow. I have been using Vista Premium for about 4 months and it's just now getting friendly.

I am using it now since 3 weeks and must admit, it is really not that bad.
Although I must admit, that I started with SP1 :-)

I love some of the security enhancements.
Although I had to rework some of my designs I did before.
eg. The Startup-Folder or Run-Registry-keys.
I had an app in there, which needs admin access. Pretty damn thing I thought, but now I found the solution which serves it pretty good.
Instead of starting the app through startup folder or the run-keys, it will now be started through the now real good task scheduler, as you can force an app to start in admin mode there and this will not give you the UAC Dialog.

May I bring this up again ?
It would be great to have something for vista, as copying eg. to the Program Files Folder is not possible with normal start.
I have to restart with admin rights.

I checked again on my problems on vista.

This is FC when I try to rename a file in c:\program files:

This is the standard explorer, when I do the same:

Why is the behaviour so different ?
Can we do something about this ?

I plan to resolve these problems for the next version after 2008.06a.
If you want now, you can run FC as admin by checking the "Run this program as an administrator" option on the Compatibility tab of the application properties.
