"Show caption without clipping" for List and Details view

In Thumbnails view there's one useful feature - "Show caption without clipping". With this option, full name is displayed.
I suggest a similar option also for List and Details view, currently just tooltip can be used to show long names - and it's quite annoying, because it's covering the other columns and it's hidden after few seconds, or when moving a cursor away from the item.
Whole name could cover the item(s) below, as in thumbnails view, or other items could be moved down, if possible.
