"Bytes(s)" -> "B" (and perhaps customising size names)?

Hi,
Would it be possible give the option of how to display "Bytes(s)"? E.g. an option to change it to "B" or "b". And perhaps it could be possible to make it generic so that the user can override the size names to be whatever they want? E.g. I might name them "b", "k", "m", "g" (and "t"?).
I'm mainly thinking about being able to make the file size column as narrow as possible.
