Button to reactivate personal saved/archived bkp_settings XE

#1 Post by sdb » 27.01.2012, 12:07

Button to reactivate personal saved/archived bkp_settings:

If somebody has several computers, with a button in the settings window to "reactivate" archived/saved bkp_settings he could easily install Freecommander XE with personalized settings on more than one computer.

That would be very handy since people do have more than one computer nowadays.

eg. somebody saves the bkp_settings in a zip file on google docs, then the zip file could be downloaded on every computer and the personal settings for freecommander XE easily set.

At the moment you can do this by simply copying the wanted Bkp_Settings_... back to the Settings-folder.

yep, this is a comfort issue.

But you have to first delete the default files, then copy the backup in the folder before execute freecommander (because of the automatic save when closing the Freecommander)

or unfortunately using Windows Explorer or deselect the automatic save when closing Freecommander.

a button could replace the default values by selecting the two backup files, and when the freecommaner is restarted the personal settings are applied.

it could be easier.

thanks

aha now I've found out why it didn't work by deselecting the autosave. The deselection of the autosave does not work.

To use Windows Explorer is bad because system files directories aren't displayed.

Therefore I used doublecommander to replace the settings files and restarted Freecommander XE.

Simply stated, it is impossible to do that procedure in Freecommander XE itself (replace the settings files)

Simple solution would be to have the same possibility of choosing the folder, where settings of FreeCommanderXE would be stored (the same dialogue like for backup settings). Then I would prefer the application folder to make the FreeCommanderXE fully portable.

good idea.

an implementation of a reactivate button for achived settings would be simple:

click button, select the two backup files from user (when Freecommder XE installed on a new pc), code for remove default or other settings (from a possible different person), copy new files in the default or user set path for setting files, delete existing settings and replace with backed up settings , for that procedure autosave must be
automatically disabled, when user restarts Freecommander the new configuration from backup is set.
