Hi,

thanks for providing the Commander.

Any chance of integrating a file tagging tool?

Would be extremely handy.

Thanks, zampanoo

Hi,

don't know what NTFS streams are, sorry.

A tagging tool allows one to add searchable metadata/tags to any file. This is helpful as it frees one from the tree structure of directories into which files are currently being forced.

Googling tag2find will show you an example.

Tagging seems to be the method to organize mp3 files (lots of tag editors available) but they only work for audio files.

Thanks again...................Zampanoo.................

I meant, there is no native file tagging function in Windows, so a tag database (and DBMS) is required.
e.g., tag2find uses NTFS
mp3 tags are stored inside an mp3 files
own database can be used also, but causes periodical reindex need

so, this feature are more complicated that it seems

Thanks, enkryptor, for getting back.

Too bad if tagging is complicated to implement.

I just dreamt of having another column next to Size, Modified, Date, etc which can be populated with tags...

Not sure about reindexing - the idea of tagging is to give tags to selected files only (such as a large number of pdf reprints of scientific publications in my case) - not like copernic or google desktop searches where everything is constantly indexed.

I don't no much about writing software, just thought I give it a try since FC has so many useful features already.

Any way, thanks again.......................Stefan...................

Hi,

further to my previous remarks, I found that the feature I am looking for is (partially) built into the Windows explorer as you can see from here:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/how-to- ... olders.php

It is possible to display a column called comments which is easily filled in by right clicking a file and writing into the comments area to be found under properties.

Maybe this would allow incorporating the feature into FC without too much hassle. It seems that the comment field is also accessed by desktop searches.

Bye.......................Stefan..................
