Refreshing a folder of image thumbnails afrer deleting file

#1 Post by CabbageTree » 20.06.2020, 20:40

Hi there,

In my deeply loved FC I found one annoying thing:

Imagine you have a folder with a large amount of images and the view is set to thumbnails (Ctrl + I). In the middle of this folder I select one file and delete it. And here the trouble comes: After the image is deleted, the scroll is reset back all the way to the beginning and the files are reloaded again (one by one all of the thumbnail blinks — despite it is fast, it takes some time).

Imagine you are sorting large amount of images and after each deleting, you have to experience this and scroll back, searching the spot you have been.

Plenty of us has SSD now. What about some cache of image thumbnails for selected folders? (For example folder containing photos.)

Thank you.

Can't reproduce it with default and custom settings, in 822, upgrade, if you don't have this vesion.

Perhaps check the refresh settings...

Thanks for reply. When unchecked the Autorefresh, the scrolling issue is really gone. However the thumbnail refresh after deleting the file still happens.

(My version: FreeCommander XE 2020 Build 822 64-bit donor)

OK, I think I got it. Refresh option is not important, you can enable all refresh options.

My test, 822 donor 64-bit, portable, Windows 10 64-bit 2004:

- use default settings
- switch to thumbnails view
- delete image with:

- delete key = thumbnails are not reloaded
- delete toolbar button = thumbnails are not reloaded
- right click context menu delete item = all thumbnails are reloaded!

- set the file/folder operations option for Delete to "Use FreeCommander"
- delete image using delete key, delete button, or context menu
= all thumbnails are reloaded!

I think it could be considered as a bug.

Workaround:
- set the file/folder operations option for Delete to "Use Windows"
- for deleting a file use delete key or delete toolbar button

It works here, I don't know which OS do you have, so let us know, if it works and which Windows version do you have.

For me the reload happens only if delete operation is via context menu.
