Interesting!
What settings should I adjust in freecommander.ini?

I tried installing the portable apps version of freecommander, but everytime I restart the application all the new settings are lost.
I think once this problem is solved, the rest of the solution will fall into place.

be careful when changing freecommander.ini manually (start with a backup of the file, of course)

1) close FreeCommanderXE
2) open freecommander.ini in text-editor
3) find the line starting with "ExtList4WebView="
4) insert ".pdf" after the equal sign
5) find the second line starting with "ExtList4WebView="
6) insert ".pdf" after the equal sign
7) save the file
8) you're done

...or just wait a little until @Marek fixes the bug

Which version, steps to reproduce?

I can't confirm it, tested in 830 public beta and 834 donor, changed it from Settings dialog and from Viewer - Settings button.

Using the portable version, install folder is C:\Programs, not C:\Program files.

@Dreamer / @Marek thanks for looking into it.
it is a "set it and forget it" feature so that bug didn't bother me too much. it just came into my mind again when reading @npcarnival's post.

I did some more research.
-- I can say for sure: it does not happen every time.
-- I dare say: if your Quick Viewer is activated it tends to happen pretty frequently.

Thank you @alf500 and @Dreamer for your help.

This is a great first step in getting quick viewer to work.
Currently both .epub and .pdf work, but only by prompting to open the file in the standalone viewer.

This is helpful because now, the settings are maintained when I close freecommander and relaunch.
Now I just have to figure out how to open the files in quickviewer rather than in the standalone viewer.
Thanks for pointing out the freecommander.ini file, I am going to investigate to see if I can get the viewer working.
Also I am going to switch back to the Donor portable and see what happens.

Thanks very much for your insights and help.

I can confirm the issue regarding extensions disappearing from the lists in the Viewer upon restart.

I've added a bug report with reproducible steps for disappearing extensions.
