pdf -no preview available

Using FreeCommander XE 2020 Build 840 64-bit donor, Windows 10 OS Build 19041.685.
Using Foxit Reader v. 10.1.1.37576.

No quick preview of pdf available, FreeCommander displays the error message "no preview available."

Applying the suggestion to select Options → Settings… and move “.pdf” text from the field “as Windows preview” to field “as Internet/Office” produces a blank preview window, not an error message. Upon closing and restarting FreeCommander again, however, these settings are lost and have returned to the initial setting with .pdf in the "as Windows preview" field.

Other files (.pptx, .docx, .txt,.csv,.R) open without problem. It's the pdfs that won't display.

Are you using install or portable version of Foxit Reader?
Are you using 64-bit version of Foxit Reader?
Can you see the preview in viewer (F3)?
Can you see the preview in Windows Explorer?

hey peterk61,

you might want to try setting your Foxit Reader as an external viewer:

https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/S ... ewers.html

Filter: *.pdf
Program: path to to Foxit Reader
Parameter: %ActivSel%

best regards

- I have used an .exe file to install, not a portable .zip file

Are you using 64-bit version of Foxit Reader?
- I understand the free Foxit reader is 32-bit.

Can you see the preview in viewer (F3)?
- Yes.

Can you see the preview in Windows Explorer?
- Yes.
BUT: as suggested by another contributor, I have also added the parameter %ActivSel% to the path to the external pdf viewer, and that seems to work after re-installing Foxit.

Problem appears to be solved. Thanks!

Peter

Adding the parameter %ActivSel% seems to have done the trick.

Thanks, Odamn-Ete!
