How do you edit files on sftp server?

#1 Post by FilipK » 03.02.2021, 15:50

Hi, I would like to create and edit text files on remote sftp server just by pressing F4, but my problem is that once I complete editing the file is not automatically transferred to the server.
What is your way of working in such a situation? Wich editor cooperate well with FreeCommander?
Thank you in advance for any tips.

No problem here.
After editing and closing the editor, a message appears:

Code: Select all

The file "xxxxx" was changed. Do you want to copy it into "yyyyyyyyyyy"

With the answer "Yes" the file will be copied.
Works with e.g. Notepad, PsPad.

Thanks for the reply.
In my case, when I was working with NP++ , the question if I want to copy the file back to the server has appeared out only if I closed the whole editor application. For plain Notepad it is ok, but almost all better editor are multi-tabbed and when I close only the tab with the file I oppened from sftp server the FreeCommander does not react and don't ask for file copying back on the server.
What I did wrong?

Currently the file is checked only if the editor program is closed.

It is clear now.
I did not found any option to force the FreeCommander to use explicite given editor, other than the system-wide defined. Is there any?
