copy dialog, option preserve File / Folder timestamp.

#1 Post by Hugo_W » 13.02.2021, 14:28

Hello everybody,
In the copy dialog there is the option presurf File / Folder timestamp.
If I copy several directories with the option set, the individual files keep their old date, but the folder gets the current date / time.
I mean a long time ago the directory kept the old date, but I'm not sure. Or is there another option that I don't know yet?
Why is it called presurf file / folder ?
Is it a bug or is it even a Windows peculiarity?

I can't reproduce, tried to copy multiple folders, subfolders, files, 841 portable 64-bit, Win 10 20H2.

Regarding "presurf", I have "preserve", using English language.

Perhaps more info would help, or try it with default settings + file operations - FC.

Hello Dreamer
sorry, presurf / preserve was a mistake of mine.

Yesterday I copied (F5) some directories with pictures from SSD to a new USB stick.
That's when I first consciously noticed the "problem".

In Settings -> File / Functions folder -> General, all 4 options are set to FC

Win 10 pro 64 bit current / FC 841 64 bit port

I tried to copy some folders and files to USB flash drive, tried also hidden and read only items, also with default settings, still no problem, date/time is preserved for folders, subfolders and files.

Can you reproduce it?

I've just tested
Copy 10 directories with subdirectories and different files (TXT, DOC, MP3, etc.)

- from SSD to another directory on the same SSD:
- From SSD to an empty partition on the same SSD
The same result in both variants, all files keep the old date, all directories and all subdirectories are given a new date.
What standard settings do you mean, Dreamer?

How can I add the INI here? I only find insert pictures.

Next test:
New FC841port from HP, unpacked and used without changes, same test as above:
Files / directory / subdirectories keep old date
File / folder functions were predefined on Windows use
Changed to use FC -> same test -> directory / subdirectories get new date

If I switch between FC and Win in my "old" FC installation, I get the same results.

So there is a difference when copying in FC or Win mode.

Are you copying standard folders and it's broken too, right? Not only from archive?

You can use one of these possibilities:
1) Use a portable version, install it to a new folder, e.g. "FreeCommanderTest" (your custom setting files will be preserved).
2) Use these command line parameters (your custom setting files will be preserved):
If you are using a standard setup version:
/N /NewIni=%FcAppDataPath%\TestSettings\FreeCommander.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English
When you need to restart or exit FreeCommander and start it with last used (test) settings, use these parameters:
/N /Ini=%FcAppDataPath%\TestSettings\FreeCommander.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English
If you are using a portable version, you can use these command line parameters for default settings:
/N /NewIni=%FcSrcPath%\TestSettings\FreeCommander.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English
These parameters to start with last used (test) setting in portable version:
/N /Ini=%FcSrcPath%\TestSettings\FreeCommander.ini /NoPlugins /Lng=English
If you are testing often, you can create desktop shortcuts with these parameters, or the favorite items in FreeCommander.

The "TestSettings" folder should not contain any other FreeCommander*.ini files.
1st way with portable version is probably easier, just download, unpack to new folder and run (guide is in the link above).

Then just change all file operations to FC and test.

I only copy "normal" folders, no archive, nothing packed, etc. Drives are not compressed.
Test with a new FC port installation has already been carried out -> see above

There are different results when copying with win or FC mode, see above (bevore your last post)

In my "old" installation I have toggled the options copy with Win or FC and the option preserve file / folder timestamp back and forth several times.
Now it works correctly. I therefore assume that the option was not correctly stored in the INI.
Thanks for your help Dreamer
