suggestion: in detailed view add free space to select files

#1 Post by marcel » 07.10.2011, 16:31

SUGGESTION: in detail view add a free space strip left from the names of the files.
The reason - to be able to select a subset of files by "drawing" a rectangle by mouse like in the Windows Explorer.

Currently it is possible to do only
- when the window is so wide, that there is free space to the right of the last column
- or, when you select the first of the files, then press Shift, and then press the last of the files

The reason: Drawing a rectangle is very quick and convenient. Try in Windows Explorer in Windows 7.

Steps to demonstrate the situation:
- create a folder with files
aa.txt
bb.txt
cc.txt
dd.txt
- from menu select: View/Details
- from menu select: View/Sort by/Name
- try to select by left mouse button only
bb.txt
cc.txt
by drawing

selection rectangle
- FEATURE: it is impossible to select the files
bb.txt
cc.txt
- because by pressing mouse left button you always drag a file and not draw a selection rectangle

Therefore: please add a free space strip left from the names like in Windows Explorer in Windows 7 in detailed view.

Try to
- deactivate the option "Full row select"
- activate the option "Theme off"

under Settings - File/folder list and you have no problem with drawing a rectangle.
