You tried setting the "Group Index" for the "Sort: Extension" button in "Customize Action Toolbars"? If you want it to default to that, set all the view buttons to the same Group Index. I, myself, have not figured out how exactly it works, but I think "Group Index" is the key to getting the sorting the way you want it.

setting the "Group Index" for the "Sort: Extension" button in "Customize Action Toolbars"?
Right click on one of your sort buttons in the toolbar, and select, "Customize Action Toolbar" - then, in your list of buttons, there will be a ... column. If you click on that, it will bring up a panel entitled, "Details for: [button name]". In this panel, you can also change the icon of the button, if you like.

Yes, I agree. Since this is still in beta, its okay if we don't get it yet. I started a post, here
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3491
and was hoping for further explanation, but nobody has added anything yet.

Sterno, have you added the button to your toolbar that looks like ...A...Z? There are two of them that look just alike. One sorts by type, the other by extension. I have both buttons on my toolbar, and they seem to work fine.

In Settings/General, do you have the "Auto save settings -on exit" box checked? You can also add a button to the toolbar for "Save Settings". This is handy, because if you crash FC (beta) then you won't lose your settings you just made.

Well, I changed the Group Index on all my sort buttons to 51 and it seemed to stick. It doesn't stick all the time, but it does most of the time.
