Status bar now too deep
In a recent FC XE build (can't remember which), the status bar gained an additional, empty, text line depth, and that hasn't changed with subsequent builds. Maybe that extra space is used for some functions that I don't use in FC? - Anyway, I would much prefer not to have that waste of space unless I'm doing something that requires a second text line or maybe a progress indicator there. So, is there any chance of my getting rid of that extra space? -- Thanks.

I had this happen to.
I backed up my config, and tried with no config and it didnt have the extra line.
So I started with a new config and setup my config again

Have you checked the settings first? Settings - Status bar - Wrappable.Anyway, I would much prefer not to have that waste of space unless I'm doing something that requires a second text line or maybe a progress indicator there. So, is there any chance of my getting rid of that extra space?

Brilliant - that's it! I assume, then, that that setting crept in recently, and was enabled by default - for I have never knowingly encountered that setting before, and thus have not changed it at any point. Many thanks for the quick and easy solution!

Actually, just thinking about it, that's really not the end of the issue, because then the question is why having 'wrappable' enabled causes an unnecessary empty text line space. I would be inclined to regard this as a bug, for correct operation of 'wrappability' would simply add the extra line depth when something was actually being wrapped, and remove it again the moment the extra space is not actually being used.
