FC hangs/freezes too often

I am using Build 716 32-bit public beta (but this has been an issue since I started using FC a couple of months ago - also in release versions).

To me FC hangs way too often. There are other threads with the same issue but it does not seem like there are many replies from the dev or others. Is this just affecting few users?

Example of hangs:
  • OK'ing to the settings dialog
  • Working with network drives
  • Copying/moving (locally and to mapped drives), using FC function in background
  • Renaming files
Setup: 2 panes, folder tree in left pane. Mapped network drives. Fairly powerful laptop with SSD drive, 8 GB RAM. Windows Explorer and other file managers I've used have not given me all these hangs.

This is a killer app (now also with FTP - excellent) but for me not fully usable due to these hangs - which is why I have not donated yet.

What can I do to either adjust my settings or submit a bugreport that will allow the problems to be fixed?

Hmm thats strange, I dont think I have EVER had a hang problem with FreeCommander.
Is there any detailed error message?

I'm having the same problem. Everything works perfectly on a certain day began freezing after performing file operations and still had no solution.

I just had it again.

Deleting files on a mapped network drive using FC delete. Nothing happened at all in FC while trying to wipe delete it. Had to kill FC.

Doing the same in Windows Explorer it took 5 mins to delete the 1946 items.

If you have donor access, you should test latest FreeCommander XE 2016 release 717 donor version.
In 717 implemented: New method for Copy/Move operation performed by FC added (Vista+ only)
You should change Tools - Settings - File/folder operations - Copy/Move on Vista+ if use FC

Because of this problem which has been going on for some time now, I use FastCopy to delete large numbers of files especially on my NAS drive. Otherwise FC either sits there with the busy icon or spends far too long counting the number of files to delete.

Well, m-a-r-k, it shouldn't be like that. Windows has no issue.

I have made some improvements to delete operation in the 718 release.
Now you can select if you want to use Vista method (till now Vista method was selected automatically on Vista+).
The Vista method can be slower if you have large number of files to delete and you use the plain view (the option can be set on the "Files" tab in the Delete Dialog).

I'm being asked for an Administrator password when trying to download "FreeCommanderXE-32-donor_portable718.zip"
I'm not asked for the other files.

I also get frequent freezes when working in FCXE, especially when any networked folders from my (all-too-slow) NAS box are loaded. It seems that when the NAS is slow to respond to a network request (e.g. loading the list of files in a folder), FCXE will just lock up and sit there, unresponsive, until the NAS *does* complete the operation.

It would be nice if FCXE could be configured to "time-out" when operations take longer than expected to complete. A message like "The server at '\\SERVER' is taking too long to respond. Continue to wait? [Yes][No]" appearing after, say, 5 seconds, would be far preferable to simply sitting there and doing NOTHING. It would be even better if FCXE would do something like "The server at '\\SERVER' is taking too long to respond. You may continue to wait, or press 'Cancel' to stop the operation." That way, we would have the option of either waiting for it to finish, or cancelling and trying something else.

Edit: FCXE 64-bit build 720 donor, Windows 7 64-bit.

I get this all the time. It can take over 30s or more sometimes to get a dialog to pop up and another minute before it even starts to delete files, for instance.
Doesn't happen all the time but when it does it's infuriating.
It would be nice to have more amodal operations, where FCXE doesn't have to wait and become totally inert until a network drive responds before it can do something else.

Hello,
same for me I already downloaded the latest FC 64bit 720, but same behavior, connecting to a NAS system takes sometimes longer than a minute or hangs up completely.
Is there a kind of indexing which is refreshed ??
