Balancing width between tree and list in a single panel

Hello,
I commonly use dual panel with a folder tree on each side in addition to a file list (4 actual sub-panels)
Balancing and resizing is pretty well handled through different options between panels.
However, balancing between tree and list sub-panels in each panel is quite arbitrarily proportional to the current respective sizes.
Is it possible, as of today, to set a maximum size to the tree sub-panel ?
I can see a somewhat equivalent for the list in menu :
Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > Max. column width for list view (0-auto size; <0-fixed width)
....although undocumented (online and .chm) and apparently inoperant (I haven't perceived any impact changing the value ; what about the meaning of negative vs. positive ones ?)
I actually would love to find there a fixed-with option or auto-size within a limit of x% on the panel.
Have a missed something already existing ?
Thanks
K.
