No refresh upon 7-zip extraction

#1 Post by BGM » 03.10.2020, 23:07

I use 7-zip to extract files from zip folders. However, when I do this, FreeCommander does not display the files I've extracted. I can't remember what version it was when this began - it used to work fine, but maybe for the last few months it no longer shows the extracted files. I have to refresh FreeCommander first. Right now I am using version 2020 build 828. 64 bit.

Well, I right-click on a zip folder and use "Extract to [foldername]\". The zip file extracts, but I cannot see the new folder in FC until I push the refresh button.

ahh. I see.
I don't have any 7zip context menu items.
I start 7zip and extract the files --> no refreshing problems on my machine.

Hi alf5000,

the error is not limited to *.7z alone. It also occurs with *.zip files (same procedure as BGM)

my packer is 7zip.
no matter whether I unpack .7z or .zip or .rar, my FCXE auto refreshes instantly.
but as I said, I cannot do it via right-click menu because I have no context menu entries for my packer 7zip.

You get the context menu when you select the options during the 7zip install on your system.

I know.
but I don't need it and I don't want to mess up my context menu.

That's fine with me - I'm not really concerned whether you have 7zip in the context menu or not.

The whole point of my thread was to see from someone (Marek, maybe?) whether there's a fix for me to get it to work or if this is a bug.

ok. I found out even portable version of 7zip can add/remove context menus very easily (wow it's a good program).

I cannot confirm your auto-refreshing issues in FCXE when extracting .zip or .7z or .rar using the context menu of 7zip-packer on my machine.

I also use 7-Zip context menu.

Cannot confirm, pane refreshes immediately after extraction.

I can confirm this behavior. But it happens only occasionally and has been around for a long time. I currently have an archive downloaded from:

https://www.fosshub.com/GMIC.html?dwl=g ... _win64.zip

When using the 'Extract to gmic_2.9.4_gimp2.10_win64' context menu, the files are extracted, but panel is not updated to show new 'gmic_2.9.4_gimp2.10_win64.' folder. When I refresh (Ctrl-R), it is then updated.

I believe this has nothing to do with the archive itself. If I rename a different archive to 'gmic_2.9.4_gimp2.10_win64.zip' and extract in the same way, it will exhibit the same behavior. So it appears to have something to do with the way the archive is named.

This is one instance. I have had many similar instances in the past, but can not recall any particular names of archives. I have not reported this before, because I could not reproduce it.

For me it happens every time. I'm using build 830 now. I'd say it started sometime in the Spring, maybe? Not sure when it started, but now it's consistent.
