To reproduce:
- use default settings
- use NC-mode, 1st and 2nd option
- use thumbnails view
- go to folder with 20 images
- focus image 10
- press shift+right arrow multiple times
- when reaching the last item, press shift+right arrow one more time
= now it's quite strange, sometime also item 9 is selected, sometime all items are selected, sometime 17, sometime it's OK
Probably the FC window size and thumbnails size is important, try to change FC window size to smaller, if you can't reproduce, I can reproduce it also if FC is maximized.

if you hold down shift for a second before hitting the right arrow button it works fine, if you are too fast, the first file is left out, when this happens, sometimes the last file is also left out.
