More copy/move

#1 Post by Fw190 » 26.02.2021, 13:50

Hi,
I have read loads of stuff on the forums about copy/move in FC but I can still only do anything like move in FC by using ctrl+x the ctrl+v.
I have everything in file/folder operations-general as 'use windows' with 'use vista method' at the bottom and have unselected 'always copy' in the drag&drop section, it also says in there to start dragging with ctrl pressed for opposite action but that doesn't do anything and if I press F6 my PC crashes.
Has anyone ever found a way to get FC to use the standard windows actions?
Also, if I start to try and move then abandon it and drop the file/folder back where it was, it makes another copy which I find a bit irritating, is there any way to disable that action.

Hello,

first, upgrade to the latest version (840), if you don't have it already.

Then you can read the topic "How to report a bug" - link below.

Which file from which folder are you moving - and to which folder - local, network, FTP?

I can't reproduce it, any crash after F6.

Perhaps you can try "Use FreeCommander" options from copy/move.

I am using FreeCommander XE 2021 Build 844 64-bit

Why does it matter what file or folder I want to move to wherever? It is just stuff on a local hard drive.

I don't really want to learn different methods for cut-copy-paste etc., I just want to use the standard windoze ones.

If it is a bug it seems to have been around a long time from some of the posts I have read recently.

It's important to reproduce a bug, without it it's impossible, or very hard to fix it.

If you do the same, with the same files in Windows explorer, is it working good, no crash?

Topic moved to Bug Reports - donor.

if I press F6 my PC crashes
If the crash is in FreeCommander you should get dialog with the exception and with the possibilty to send the bug report.
If it is the case - it would be helpful if you could send the report.
Otherwise (no exception dialog) the crash is not in FreeCommander code and you should check the Windows Eventlog.

I don't have any problem moving or copying files in win explorer. I don't have any problem copying files in freecommander but have problems with moving stuff in FC. I only got the crash once when I tried pressing F6 to move things in FC, the PC just went into reboot mode instantly, no messages from anything, I have disabled all the F key functions in FC now.
I have just used ctrl+x and ctrl+v in FC up to now but I was doing a lot of 'tidying' recently and ended up using two windoze file manager windows and thought it would be so much easier if I could get FC to move with drag-n-drop, in the win file manager it switches between copy or move by pressing ctrl when dragging.
I did switch all file/folder operations to FC mode and find I get the drag copy/move switch with the shift key but I still find myself trying to use ctrl all the time for it and don't really understand why ctrl doesn't work when FC file/folder operations are set to windows mode.
Is there any way to abandon a drag copy without FC making a copy of whatever was being dragged?

"Have you tried ESC?" - thanks that kills the copy.

I think it's your keyboard, multimedia key, you're not using F6, but Sleep or Restart multimedia function.

Try to select any file and press F2, can you rename the file? If not, your F-keys are probably switched with the multimedia keys, probably you need to press Fn+F6 to use F6 to move file in FreeCommander.

If you want to use the F-key shortcuts, not multimedia functions, your keyboard/notebook model is important, search for a way to switch it, I think it's possible with some, not all notebooks.

I am using a basic desktop keyboard, no multimedia stuff and the F keys work as the standard windoze functions. But this isn't really about F keys, I shouldn't have mentioned that incident as it has just confused things and doesn't matter now as I have removed all F key settings from FC.
I was just wondering if there was any way to get the standard windoze copy/move options when the file/folder settings in FC are set to windoze mode.
