The DOS 8.3 file name format is being received by the drop target, which of course makes things really go strange there.
This may be how the receiving program interprets the drop info, but this does not happen when doing the same thing in Windows Explorer.

drag - drop providing dos 8.3 format, not full file name
Ack -- yes. I just did a few experiments to see what would happen, since I usually don't drag much. Several different text editors confirmed the 8.3 behavior.
It's not the same with everything though. Some programs seem to have no problem -- and some really freak out. One image editor "couldn't find D:\freecommander\splash.bmp" when I dragged E:\artsy\drum01flip2r-comm3.PNG onto it, one took an 8.3, one displayed the full name in its title bar.
Interesting. I'll have to play with a few of these in some other file managers.
