Weird file locking issue with CDR files

#1 Post by therealjd » 28.11.2012, 22:15

601 on XP pro SP3.

i have a number of coreldraw files that i could not move, error: "file is being accessed by another person or program".

I used unlocker to track the culprit. it showed FREECOMMANDER was locking the files. (!?)

Trying to use unlocker with freecommander open, caused unlocker and freecommander to crash.

I restarted freecommander again after a reboot, CDR files were locked. i closed freecommander and was able to move the files with another file manager without issue. Not sure what's causing freecommander to "lock" the CDR files??

What is your setting for moving files "Use Windows" or "Use FreeCommander"?
If you have "Use FreeCommander" than try if you can copy/move with "Use Windows".

all file/folder operations are set to "use windows".

This happens after a reboot, i have not launched coreldraw, but the CDR files are still 'locked' by FC XE.

Have you the Coreldraw problem on XP and on Win 7?
Could you try to set (Settings->File/folder list) Icons to registered or fixed and test again?

I've done the following:

Changed the icons for fixed and network drives to "registered". closed freecommander and after a restart, the CDR files are still locked.

Changed the icons for fixed and network drives to "Fixed". closed freecommander and after a restart, i can move the cdr files.
however, the file list only shows two file types. Folder, and file, so there's no way to sort by file type, when i use the "fixed" setting for icons.

I've tested this on in win 7 system, but coreldraw is NOT installed on there, so there seems to be no issues moving cdr files around.

I'm guessing there's something that the install of Coreldraw does that is conflicting with freecommander. By default installing coreldraw has an option to include a "windows shell extension" that enables thumbnail support in windows explorer. I do have the corel thumbnail extension install on my xp system. enabling the thumbnail more in freecommander xe does not show a thumbnail image though.

FYI.
I've tested viewing and moving the CDR files with other file managers. multicommander has no file locking issues but shows nothing in thumbnail mode
xplorer2 can show thumbnails for it and has no file locking issues either.
