Rel314: Changing eg. Servername in Address Line takes long

#1 Post by Mr-Fly » 09.01.2008, 17:13

Hi.

Changing the Servername in the Address-Line (ALT-G) takes long.
eg.
"\\servername\sharename\test\testdir2"
to change it to:
"\\server24\sharename\test\testdir2"
will let freecommander run in network timeouts all the time.
I presume, that FC tries to reach the server to verify/load the directory-list.
WHile editing it will then look for the servers:
servernam
serverna
servern
server
server2
and finally the right one "server24"

Kind Regards
Thorsten

@Marek

Did you see this ?
This really drives me crazy at the moment, as I never can change the servername while using FC.
Changing 3 characters in a servername takes 60 seconds (10 second each network timeout)

I could ignore "\\servername" and make a delay (200-500ms) for each keypress, so if you type fast the dir search will be skipped.

Maybe the directory search should only be started when pressing "\" like Explorer does.
it only searches when the last character changes to "\".
This will minimize any false searches that may appear.
Also the ones where someone changes a folder in the middle.

Hi Thorsten,

please check the problem with "\\servername" in the current beta.

Hi Marek,

It looks very good. No hangs anymore and the folder list is presented the same way, explorer does, when entering a "\".
Only thing I noticed while using it first time is ,that when deleting a part of the path, that the "\" has to be deleted twice ?
first time you reach the "\" with backspace, it will be marked and then you can delete the "\" itself.
Might be confusing for some people.

Fly
