597 - Quick Filter Field Width Limited to 250

#1 Post by DG » 01.08.2012, 21:09

The width of the quick filter field cannot be expanded beyond 250 in FCXE 597. The arrow button goes only to 250 and if you enter a greater amount, FC doesn't save the setting. I edited the .ini file and set QuickFilterEditFieldWidth=400, but that makes no difference, either.

Regards,
DG

08/13/2012 Update with work around:

To apply a change in the quick filter width:
1. Exit FreeCommander
2. Edit FreeCommander.ini and change QuickFilterEditFieldWidth=250 to your desired width.
3. Start FreeCommander
4. Go into Tools\settings\Quick Search
5. Uncheck "Quick filter bar always visible"
6. Click "Apply". The filter expands or shrinks to the new width.
7. Re-check "Quick filter bar always visible" and exit.

The change remains in place until you exit FC.

In what context do you need more than 250 characters? For Windows, the maximum length for a file or directory name is 256 characters, while the maximum length for the full path is 259 (260 including the string-terminating null character). And almost all names will be far below that limit.

Plus with progressive string matching in the filter, I usually need to type only a few characters in order to see what I'm looking for.

The quick filter is in pixels, not characters.

This has been fixed in v598.

Thanks for responding.

Thanks, now I understand! 250 pixels is indeed narrow.
