can FC solve win7 bug?

#1 Post by hycmos » 21.08.2012, 16:19

hi, sir
win7 has bug like this:
the virtule drive mapped by "subst" has not trash folder in win7 OS(WIN xp is ok). the default delete action always delete file permanetly on mapped virtule drive, we can not restore those deledted files!

it is known that FC has its speacial way to deletes files. so can FC defines one way:"delete" files to a pre-define trash folder by press key "delete" instead of the win7's default action? this pre-define trash folder actuly is a normal folder in some place.
then we can restore those deleted files.

can do this?

you could remap delete to "move to yourtrashfolder".
maybe this application works the way you want:
http://www.gateway-to-hell.com/cgi-bin/ ... xsubst.zip
or check this one:

inglorious, thanks very much.

you could remap delete to "move to yourtrashfolder".
maybe a tradeoff solution although not the best.

xsubst is good.
it similar with Visual Subst
http://www.ntwind.com/software/utilitie ... subst.html.
but both have not trash folder. :(

i try it.

i think the best way is to create a trash bin folder on the virtual drive , just same as the normal drive.

I dunno your work-flow maybe you could mount files (e.g. vhd, zip) instead of folders?
there is for sure freeware for W7 to solve your problem.
winXp is obsolete, MS support ends soon, therefore stick to w7, btw w8 is out on MSDN.

actualy i am not a programmer, i dont familiar with code, know little DOS. i use EDA tools to simulate integrated circuit.
all my files of projects refer to the subst-ed drive, such as V:,X:,Y:...
the search path of my simulation file refer to these drive.

there are tens of projects in my real drive.
when i run one project i must subst the real path of this project to associate the project path with virtual drive V:.

for example, all project path=D:\my_projects\one,D:\my_projects\two,D:\my_projects\three,...
when my team runs project "one", i must subst V D:\my_projects\one;
now drive V is folder "one".

if i delete files on the virtual V, i cannot restore these files. very dangerous.

can vhd&zip solve the problem?

can vhd&zip solve the problem?
vhd file format is like a real hard drive, so delete to rec. bin should work.

I guess I found a work-around for your issue:

1. RMB on folder and create a network share
2. Right-click on My Computer, in the Computer entry in the left pane and select “Add a network location”.
3. Select a drive letter and select your local computer network share you've just created.

alternatively you can achieve the same with the dos command "net".
In case your having trouble with the "tutorial" above, you might need to set a password for your windows user first.

i will try this new solution.

vhd method is not easy. what i need is to associate any folder with the virtual device. then anyone of my team has the same path. so any project has the same device. "subst" does this very easy.

by the "subst" command the project manager can manage any project efficiently, and share any files&folder with other team-mate.
the project member only need to remember one drive number "V". it is enough.

hi inglorious,

the new way can get a virtual device. but also there is not the trash folde just like the "subst" command.

maybe win7 will throw "subst" away. :x

now i find a tradeoff!

when delete file I will go into the real path not the mapped device. the deleted file can be restored!!
using FC, l lock the real path. delete file is easy.
