Nexus 7 is not recognized

#1 Post by sdb » 13.11.2012, 15:40

my google/asus nexus 7 is not recognized (but from win 7, Arbeitsplatz), for copying data from a folder to the device. Probably that has to do with a protocol.

I read this

"The Nexus 7 uses the MTP file transfer protocol"

I don't know anything about Nexus, nor about MTP, but maybe you can access it using the FTP drive? Oh - I forgot, that is not yet implemented in FCXE - the older FC 2009 would let you do that, but FCXE is still missing the option.

Otherwise, what if you mapped that folder to a drive letter?

@BGM thanks

what does Marek mean with

- Browsing MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) devices improved - address bar

I connected my nexus 7, entered it by using my password and it is recognized from Win 7 but not Fe Xe 607.

I think its a good idea to implement mtp because millions of people use such devices and they want to copy films, pictures, pdf books etc.

no. it is recognized.

"Computer" / nexus 7

it does not show up as a drive letter or so. But it is recognized when going into the folder "Computer".
Maybe people aren't immediately aware that it does show up in "Computer". Of course interner Speicher is only visible when unlocking using the device's password.

Great.

Copying and deleting pdf files in a folder of the nexus 7 in "interner Speicher" by using Fe XE does not work.

Windows Explorer displays things in "Computer" via some internal processes, for example, you can have "control panel" there, but it's not really a folder. You can also have devices there, like a scanner.

Since you can find the device in Explorer, try mapping it to a drive letter. FC will find a drive letter. You might also open "Computer Management" and see if the drive shows up there.

I'm not sure what Marek meant by "MTP devices improved" - he probably fixed some issues he found with file-browsing those drives. But that doesn't appear to be the same problem as what you report.

Ah! In FC, open the settings panel, go to view > drives and make sure the box "Show removable drives only with disk" is not checked. (somewhere around the third from the bottom).

However, I have a combo-chip-reader drive in my computer, and if I uncheck that box, even then the drives don't show up, even though they do have drive letters. I think that is a bug; maybe its related to your problem?

For file operations with MTP devices use Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X.

hmm delete does not work but you can bypass that by cutting files and control V them into the Papierkorb.

it is much more convenient to use freecommander for transferring files to the nexus than using Windows Explorer...

in a help file probably this should be mentioned:

mtp devices are in "Computer"/...
copy, cut, delete etc... with control ...

by using the keys it works great. VERY NICE I can now easily copy many pdf's to the nexus and read them until my eyes turn rectangular!!!!

@bgm and marek thanks

Copying and deleting ... does not work.
Ah! Make sure you are not using version 604 or 607! The file menu was broken in those versions, and as such, the delete key would not work either.

while copying a big avi file exceeding the "interner Speicher" limit Fc 607 freezed. Then I killed the process. Fc 607 restart didn't work. So I restarted Windows to start Fc 607 again.

Probably Windows Explorer would have frozen too when exceeding the "interner Speicher" so I believe that such (newer) protocols are error-prone but not so Fc 607.
