How to Browse folders with Free Commander

#1 Post by therealjd » 17.09.2015, 15:31

For people wanting to quickly browse ANY folder in Free Commander, do the following.

copy / paste the following code into notepad. (Alter the path if you're using a different location for Free Commander.)

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Free Commander]
@="Free Commander (New Tab)"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Free Commander\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\FreeCommander XE\\FreeCommander.exe\" /T %1"

Save the file with a .reg extension.

Double-click on the file to add this to the registry. (you'll get a warning, but it's okay)

TO USE
Right-click on any folder, and select "Free Commander (New Tab)"

FC XE will open the folder in a new tab.

Testing and working in Windows 7 SP1 x64
FC XE 0.760 x86

Win 10 Pro Anniversary | 4GB ram

Thankyou for the information.
Is there a way to reverse the action?

In Windows 10 now has everything opening in freecommander. (maybe a good thing! I will try that for a while and see how it goes. Every shortcut now opens in freecommander. too)

I was using Win 10, but i didn't see that behaviour. (i reverted back to Win 7)
Honestly, i think i would prefer that anyways. The new explorer in Win 10 is still way behind in features when compared to FC XE!
