Disabling right panel completly instead of simply hiding it
It would be nice to have a small fature to disbale the right panel totally.
In this way I could use only the left panel with the view Tree feature on, and Freecommander looks more similar to Windows Explorer which is convinenet for newbyes like me.
Freecommander is great it shows also Photoshop CS2 thumbnails that WXP Windows Explore is not able to show.
Thanks so much for such a cool application.

At www.vanylla.it we use Freecommander :)
i agree completely!
why the hell there must be two panels?
i need only one.
two panels make the visualization horrible in tree mode.
please, do a option to use only one panel.
thanks.
obs: free commander is a really good tool, but i think it needs a interface polishment, people may become lost with so many features, specially technically ones.

It's not a good idea.Ars wrote:I think that two panels - it's a "phylosofy" of FC and similar classic commanders. For single-panel view, Windows Explorer is the case.
But, if you still want this in FC... Shift+Ctrl+F3 will help.
cos even "Ctrl+Shift+F1/F3" can hide left/right panel quickly, but when you resize the window, then the hiden left/right panel will show out again.
I totally agree to apply Single Panel View.
cos single panel view with tree+folder tab, it's enough for us.
I totally don't "get" this request.
The whole purpose of the commander-style interface (such as in FC, TC, SC, Dopus, Salamander, xplorer2, Magellan, Frigate, Accelman, EFCommander, etc. etc. etc.) is the dual-panel mode. It's what makes these tools so much more efficient UIs for file management than the single panel alternatives. Plus, new wide-screen monitors make functionality of dual-panel UIs even better.
Why bother with these softwares if you don't like to employ the dual-panel paradigm?
There are plenty of mono-panel explorer clones out there, and of course there is Explorer itself (much improved in Vista) and all it's add-ins.

Mouse-centric
I absolutely agree with you JohnFredC.JohnFredC wrote:I totally don't "get" this request.

FC already has enough options to cover the times when a single pane existence may/is best.
On the issue of FC having too many options the ones not required can simply be removed from the toolbars.

I assume there are performance penalties to having two panels, esp. if both have a treeview tacked to one side.
Therefore, and although I do normally use two panels, it makes perfect sense that hiding the second panel actually collapses it rather than just moving the bar to the right/left and making the panel ugly "sneak out" when you resize the window.
+1

I too wish I can turn it off completely rather than just hide it, but thanks anyways. But, if you still want this in FC... Shift+Ctrl+F3 will help.

You guys don't get it, the "dual pane" style is pretty much useless now because of the "tabbed interface", it's as simple as that.Use Windows Explorer if you like one panel.
Hands off two-panel style!
