To copy a file, when we use Shift F5 in a folder on selecting a file,
a window opens that asks us the name of the new file we want.
There is "Auto rename target file" option,
but even if we tick it,
it disappear when we copy next file there or anywhere. In the next window it is unticked again.
At least, this option should have come ticked the next time, once we had ticked it in the previous copying.
Actually, once we tick it, fc should not even ask us next time, and should not even open that naming window.
it should automatically copy and change the name of the file to its default method.
That is the windows does it.
I wonder whether this option is available anywhere in the settings?
Thanks.

Anyway, it would be better FC to remember shift+F5 options for the next time you use it...
And next time, when you copy with F5 the files should be automatically renamed.Change to third tab, Settings and click Save (Save dialog options for operation without dialog). It should work.

which third tab? where? in main fc window or after opening settings? in some branch? where exactly?
Thanks.

In my copy/ move, these 3 tabs are not appearing.
Thanks.

Tools - Settings - File/folder operations
You 'Use Windows' for copy/move/delete operations (as I suggest), that's why you don't see that dialog and don't see that tabs.
If you change them to 'Use FreeCommander' you'll see them. There are also new suboptions 'Copy/Move on Vista+ if use FC' introduced in latest 717 donor version (of course, if you have donor access).

Yes, thanks.
I selected "use freecommander" and I am now seeing the tabbed window.
however, whether I select "with dialogue" or without dialogue, all move/ copy operations are failing with message "unable to create directory".
I have set "auto rename target file" and have not changed any of the default settings there.
Thanks.
