Oh, it does find/ search within doc and xls files

#1 Post by vsrawat » 17.03.2016, 10:16

After years of using fc, and simultaneously, years of searching for method to be able to search within content of MS Word and MS Excel files, (no effective software found),
yesterday, I got the pleasant surprise (amazement)
that fc itself is fully capable of searching some text withing .doc and .xls files.

I searched some text and it did present the .doc and .xls files which had that text in the content.

That is really great.

But it is not searching within .docx and .xlsx files, I wonder if there is any method or plugin using which we can make it search within .docx and .xlsx files also.

that would be a great help. please consider suggesting if and how that can be achieved.

Thanks.

And I was under the impression that donor version and free user versions are exactly same and have all features, it is just that donors are given more versions early.

how naive of me.

Thanks.

There is no need to read something on that page, you need only to download the app (or you can use Google translate)
Here are direct links
http://ebstudio.info/download/KWICFinder/xd2tx214.zip - for version 2.14
http://ebstudio.info/download/KWICFinder/d2txt152.zip - for version 1.52
Description of all settings could be found on that forum.

thanks.

I could download and install it,

but it didn't run because convertor option is just not appearing in my non-donor version.
:-(

I think this ability to search within the content of the files is very much required, even for non-donors.

There is no other effective software also, which we can install separately and which can do the search.

Windows explorer search sucks.

So we become dependent on fc. Of course, for years I was not knowing that it can do it, but now that I know, and there is no other option that I know of, I would require this option.

I request developers to consider including convertor option in non-donor version also.

Thanks.

or, maybe some learned user can tell about some other easy effective free software which are able to search within doc docx xls xlsx files, so that I wouldn't need convertor option of fc.

Thanks.

For searching text in files I prefer an index-based software. They are much faster because they create an index of all words in the files.
Have you tried the windows search in Win7/8/10?
If you don't like the integrated search, you can use other desktop search engines like "DocFetcher" http://docfetcher.sourceforge.net/en/index.html

Seriously guys... I donated a long time ago because this is THE best explorer program, bar none. Skip a couple of beers one week, and donate the few bucks needed to get the full blown version.
