796 - Opening multiple files at once

#1 Post by Dreamer » 04.04.2019, 21:23

When I open 20 files at once, select + Enter, sometime it works, sometime it doesn't work, e.g.:

- 20 mp3 files opened with AIMP works, all files are added to default playlist
- 10 png files opened with XnView works, all are opened in a new instance
- 20 png files opened with XnView doesn't work, error dialog is shown: "C:\....png | Not implemented"
- 10 txt files opened with Notepad works, all are opened in a new instance
- 20 txt files opened with Notepad doesn't work, no error dialog

I'm not sure if it's a bug, or it's intended, it may be useful in some cases, but it's a bit confusing, perhaps another option could help here.

I can more or less confirm all your findings

and I found that .pdf-files are most problematic.
if I select one .pdf erverything ok.
if I select two or more .pdf problems keep showing up.

Can't confirm the problem with pdf...

- 10 pdf files opened with Sumatra works, all are opened in a single instance, as 10 tabs
- 20 pdf files opened with Sumatra doesn't work, no file opened, no error dialog

you are correct concerning .pdf

BUT

1) I didn't find a directory with 20 .pdf-files
2) so I used Plain View
3) quick filtered for .pdf
4) selected .pdf files from different folders (obviously)
5) I found that FCXE can't even handle two .pdf-files from different folders
6) I found that FCXE can handle up to fifteen .docx-files from different folders without problems (16 files can't be handled)

[edit:] I never get an error message, FCXE just doesn't open too many files -- no error, no nothing

It seems that Windows has a limitation (tested on Windows 10). If you mark 15 files, then in context menu appears "Open". From 16 files not more.
FreeCommander try to open the files with "Open" command.
If more as 15 files are selected, I can open the files individually.

Not sure if this is the same problem:
Sometimes when I open multiple PDFs (two files is enough), FC simply closes itself (without error message).
I was able to reproduce the problem afterwards some times, but then all of a sudden not anymore (within minutes).

FreeCommander XE 2019 Build 796 64-bit donor
(also happened with previous version used, probably 794)

It's not the same issue, please start a new topic, just copy the text and perhaps add more info, PDF program you're using...
