[..] item also for root disk dir., same as in 7-Zip
I can confirm this "bug"/"feature" (But the start folder must be set to "start with last used folder").
Also you can open the drives by clicking the +-symbol without selecting a folder or drive.
So I see that in principle the FreeCommander can show the whole tree of "My Computer" but it switches to "drive-view" on selecting an item.
Marek, please can you say something about this bug or hidden feature. Will it be possible in near future to see the complete tree in FC?
Thanks in advance.

I would like to add a suggestion : In addition to displaying all drives,
it would be very handy to see "desktop" and "my documents" displayed as they are in the left pane of windows explorer. Of course, one can always navigate to these directories and add them as tabs, but how handy to just go up one or two levels from root drive and see them.

If I understand this correctly, you are referring to something like this shown below - is that right? In PowerDesk Pro 5 you can use the mouse or the keyboard to go up a level from the root directory of a drive if you wish and then up one more level after that. The cool thing is that you can hit Backspace, then use the arrow keys to navigate up or down the list of items, then press Enter to go down one level into that item (be it a folder, or drive, or network neighborhood, etc.) Or you can do it with the mouse, but I find the keyboard much faster.
The three screen shots below - is that kind of feature that you are asking for?

I created the screen shots and put them up via FTP to an external domain server, then used the [ IMG ] and [ / IMG ] tags with the URL of the pic in between, and wala.pthubbard wrote:Sort of... Personally, I prefer the view in Windows Explorer. But the general idea is to be able to have access to 'My Computer' and all the system drives in the folder tree pane.
p.s. How did you insert screenshot? Would have liked to do that but couldn't figure it out.
I have been told by many people over the years that any screen shot larger than 800x600 can really screw up their forums, so, naturally, I try to accomodate the masses.
I find that specific visuals can help get a point across faster than describing it with text. Sometimes I just can't seem to express myself that clearly in words, so when that happens, I whip out Paint Shop Pro 7.04 and get down to business.
Hope that gives ya what you were lookin' for.
Happy surfing!

I don't mind the drivebar. I am used to seeing it there and I like it. I think that the fact that you can set it to show removeable drive icons only when there is media in the drive is a very good one.
Any PC with a multi-card reader could benefit from that. I know I have a 4 drive memory card reader that came built into my other machine, and it shows those drive icons even when there is nothing in there, which can be annoying if you have enough mapped network drives to cause the drive bar to wrap. But I can set that one option and 4 drive letters are basically hidden, freeing up enough space so that it does not wrap. That's nice.
But I'm just used to that extra level of functionality where you can go UP one or two more levels like in the diagram.
Anyway, I'm kind of hoping Marek can enter some sort of "Super-Code Mode" and suddenly dozens of new features will be done and ready to test before Christmans... (GRIN)
Boy do I dig this software!
