Firewall detects outgoing traffic from freecommander.exe - Why?

#1 Post by Free4all » 07.06.2019, 19:15

Firewall is detecting occasional outgoing TCP traffic coming from freecommander.exe 64-bit v799 to 72.21.91.29 on ports 549xx.

I have the check for updates functionality disabled.

Any idea what is going on?

I am considering getting the "Donors" version and the answer to this question is very relevant.

That IP Address does not seem to be malicious. A quick look up shows:

The only for me known access to Internet is the check for the new version and the menu items: If you like freeCommander, Donor downlods, Forum, Online help, Online FAQ.

Thanks Marek.

I have "Check for updates" set to "Never", and I haven't used any of those other menu items.

Maybe FCXE is trying to check for updates even when that option is disabled? What IP address/port would it be using to do that?

Well, ET may be phoning home .
Seriously, regardless of how harmless may be the target destination it is always good to exercise caution. I would make sure to have rules blocking all IP traffic in the meantime.
