804 - Search dialog list - multiple items delete issue

#1 Post by Dreamer » 12.10.2019, 12:36

To reproduce:
- to go any folder with at least 2 files
- open Search dialog
- click "Find"
- select any file
- press Delete key or click Delete toolbar button
- file is deleted
- next file is focused, but not selected
- now try to delete another file
= it doesn't work
- try to press F3 to view the file
= it doesn't work

Because of this issue it's hard to delete multiple items in Search dialog, or/and delete-view-delete-view.

Workaround - use "Export to file container" option. It works this way, but there's an additional conform dialog for each delete.

FC 804 donor 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit 1809.

Cannot confirm

I searched for a file with a specific suffix and specific content.

After clicking on Delete toolbar button, the following file was neither focused nor selected.

I had to select the file manually and deletion was succesful.

So it's even worse in your case, right?

Try to use default settings.

Dear Dreamer,

I would consider the behavior described in my test above as normal /preferred behavior. Why should FC automatically select the next file in the list after deleting a file? I may want to view / delete the third or fourth file in the list and not necessarily the next one.

Because you asked, I redid the test again, this time I created duplicates of txt files, so as to have files with more than one line of content. I also took into account that you mentioned delete-view-delete-view, to see if the issue is related to the viewer.

I tested with my normal configuration and with the default configuration as requested. (I discovered an issue with the viewer and have opened a new thread.)

Test with my normal configuration:
Strg+F
Search dialog opens
Enter file name: XYZ*.txt
Enter containing text: abc
Enable Case sensitive
Click on find button
Search dialog disappears momentarily
Search dialog reappears and search begins
Found files are listed in lower pane of search dialog, first file in the list is highlighted
View file by clicking on view tool bar icon
File is displayed in viewer with containing text (search term above) highlighted (issue with viewer discovered here)
Close viewer
Delete highlighted file in search results panel
No file is highlighted after deletion
Select next file for viewing
continue as above until all files have been viewed and or deleted
Close search dialog

Test with default configuration:
Same procedure as described above
Test results same as above with the exception that the search dialog doesn't disappear and reappear after clicking on the find button

additional information: if I delete the file within the viewer, the file is deleted but the search results panel still shows the file as being there (I would think this is normal /preferred behavior, because there is no auto refresh of the search function, search results are static, otherwise when working with a large list of files, work flow would be disrupted, i.e. after an auto refresh one would be forced to scroll down the list again and again ... My suggestion, for this Use Case, do not delete files from within the viewer, only from the search results panel.)

Because it works that way in the main FC panel too, when I delete file 1, file 2 is focused and it's possible to delete it.

If you want to delete third file, you could do it the same way, even if the next file would be selected.
