Navigation pane question

The navigation pane(left side) no longer shows some of my folders(Downloads, Documents, Music etc.). I am pretty sure it did at one time. They show in the right side(files and folders) pane. Any help with this? I would include a screenshot but don't see a way to add one to this post.
