Useless for you, perhaps.

I totally agree with rKAnjEL, tabs is better than dual panel. Let us choose to use dual panel or not!

I have three monitors. There's no need to clutter one FC window with dual panes.

Sure, you can use CTRL+SHIFT+F3 (and I do, dozens of times a day!) but it's a very inelegant solution.

Saying go back to Explorer implies that the only usefulness of FC is the dual panes, which is rubbish. There are dozens of reason why I use FC, but dual pane functionality is not one of them.

Please make the second pane completely hide-able without the constant need to use CTRL+SHIFT+F3 after resizing FC or moving an FC window to another monitor with a different resolution.

Um, why would you assume that?
Whatever directory refresh or repaint events that happen under the hood will be triggered for two views, not just one. Coding-wise, it is not uncommon that non-visible (rather than formally disabled) controls get all the applicable events/timers triggered on them as if they were in full sight.

+1 for a single-pane view.
I have one monitor, and it's a laptop monitor, so screen real-estate is at a premium - and 2 panes make everything so small I can't even see a file name. :(
I've worked around this temporarily by hiding the right pane, but a single-pane view would be infinitely superior to this...

Thanks for a great product! :D

I like the dual panes for dragging files and folders between directories, much quicker for me than cut/copy and paste. I also use the second pane A LOT for QuickView.

But sometimes on my small laptop screen, I too want single pane to save space. I've assigned shortcut key F9 to apply the 100/0 split, and just smack that key whenever the second pane tries to pop into view. (I'm not needing F9 for anything else, and it's unassigned in FC.)

Using a single function key as a shortcut is easier on the fingers than Ctrl +Shift + F3.
:D

To all those who are against a "single panel" mode I say this? Why? If there is a single panel mode it won't affect you, as you can stay in dual panel mode all day long. But, for lots of us, as good and functional as dual panel is, we DON'T NEED IT ALL THE TIME, and some of us do use single panel MOST of the time. As for the suggestion of using explorer when we need single panel mode... well, for all the obvious reasons, I think that is a specious suggestion, and borders on "my way or the highway" mentality. Just my 2 cents.

And to all who discuss the sense and nonsense again and again:

Look at the pictures of the coming FC-version and cool down your mind.

From german forum: http://www.supernature-forum.de/freecom ... nders.html
Ich würde mich freuen, wenn ich zum Jahresende eine Pre-Alpha Version den Betanutzer vorstellen kann.

Single and double pane

#28 Post by oinofilo » 07.11.2009, 13:18

@ txr
if tou don't need the second pane you could stick to Windows Explorer. The main reason why I prefer Freecommander is the double window feature which I use to move and compare files between folders. By the way Explorer is the only file manager I know that's limited to one window.
Anyway I would appreciate too a small icon to toggle between single and double window.

Request for a single pane - dual pane switch
Hello, I am relatively new to the forum, it seems as though most of you are extreme power users, I am anal about my file organization, but basic about my file access, the main reason I am interested in this program is because I absolutely hate the new Windows 7 Libraries – If I wanted my PC to act like a MAC I would have Bought a MAC.

What I Liked most about XP was the My Computer format, I prefer a single pane navigation with side directories, maybe it is just me – but a switch to chose between a single pane – double pane version would be a nice feature for me.

I personally need access 90% of the time and organizational functions 10% of the time.
